Compliance
Responsible service of alcohol.
RSA is non-negotiable. Here's exactly how we do it.
Our commitment
Royal Reels practises responsible service of alcohol (RSA) at all times, in line with the Liquor Act 2007 (NSW) and our licence conditions with Liquor & Gaming NSW. Every staff member who serves, sells, or supervises the sale of alcohol holds a current RSA competency card (SITHFAB021).
What we will do
- Check ID. We ask for photo ID from anyone who looks under 25. No ID, no entry, no service. We accept current Australian driver's licence, passport, Proof of Age card, and Keypass.
- Refuse service. We will refuse service to anyone who is, or appears to be, intoxicated. We won't be polite about it - but we will be respectful.
- Refuse entry. We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who, in the manager's reasonable view, is too intoxicated to be safely admitted, or who presents a risk to other patrons or staff.
- Display signage. Our RSA marshals wear visible lanyards. Signage is displayed at the entry, behind the bar, and in restrooms.
- Support slow drinking. Free water is always available. Bar snacks are available from the kitchen during all opening hours.
- Provide alternatives. We stock a full range of zero-alcohol beer, low-alcohol wine, soft drinks, and coffee so nobody has to drink alcohol to be at the pub.
What we ask of you
- Drink moderately. The Australian guidelines suggest no more than four standard drinks in a single sitting to reduce the risk of alcohol-related harm.
- Plan your trip home. Trains run from Central until midnight most nights, with NightRide buses covering most Sydney routes after that. A taxi rank is on Foveaux Street.
- Look after your mates. If one of your group is over the line, take them home. We'll help if you ask.
- Don't bring outside alcohol. It's a condition of our licence. We will confiscate it at the door.
When you should call us
If someone at the pub is making you uncomfortable - whether it's a staff member or a patron - find a manager. The badge says "Manager" on it. We take it seriously and we follow up.
